PHP in Version 7 ist offiziell erschienen. Die Anpassungen in PHP 7 betreffen im wesentlichen den internen Speicherverbrauch sowie Performanceverbesserungen.
Es ergibt sich – je nach Anwendung – ein Performancevorteil von ca. 40% – 80%.

Eine weitere wichtige Änderung betrifft PHP-Fehler. Diese sind in PHP 7 Exceptions und können abgefangen werden, ohne für den sofortigen Abbruch des Programms zu sorgen.

Ein eventueller Nachteil betrifft Nutzer der PHP-C-Extension-API. Die internen APIs haben sich so stark geändert, dass bisweilen lediglich die
standardmäßig mit PHP ausgelieferten Extensions angepasst wurden.
Bis allerdings spezielle Extensions von PECL oder Drittherstellern mit PHP 7 funktionieren, kann es noch einige Zeit dauern.
